Scarcity of water remains a major problem in Rajasthan. The underground water, in the region where SFD is situated, is not potable due to high saline, and fluoride levels. To find a sustainable solution, the School for Democracy has constructed 7 rain water harvesting tanks (the 8th is under construction) with the support of the SWRC (Social Work Research Centre), Tilonia. These tanks have an estimated capacity of 4,75,000 litres. The rain gutter system collects the runoff water from the rooftops and diverts it into the underground tanks, constructed for storage. The rainwater is used for drinking purpose (after purification), watering plants, construction work ,etc.
