I have been working on the Right to Information for a very long time now. I have used the RTI with regard to my work on malnutrition, displacement, health, and other issues. I am deeply connected with the peoples’ movements in Madhya Pradesh. The Information Commission has given significant orders in some of the cases filed by me and these (decisions) have impacted the policy-making as well. One of these cases was disclosure of MoUs which were being signed between private companies and the government. The (MP) government issued a notification to dilute the Right to Information, we have also challenged this notification in the High Court.
At present I am a member of an organisation called ‘Aawaaz’. Aawaaz is a group working with youth in Madhya Pradesh. Primarily the basis of our efforts is a focus on the role and participation of youth in self-governance. And as a first step, we are working amongst youngsters on the Right to Information. So that they are able to ensure their participation in the system and can fulfill the vision of transparency and accountability in governance.
I am also a member of the working committee of the National Campaign for Peoples’ Right to Information (NCPRI). I am also functioning as the state coordinator for the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) in Madhya Pradesh.
